Cleaning Biological Hazards FAQs

Biohazard cleaning is undertaken by cleaning professionals to eradicate biohazards in a number of settings. The biohazard cleaning process involves cleaning, sanitising and deodorising.

Any waste material that contains pathogens that could put humans at risk, is classified as a biological hazard. Here’s the official definition of hazardous waste provided by the UK Government’s Environmental Agency;

“Waste is considered ‘hazardous’ under environmental legislation when it contains substances or has properties that might make it harmful to human health or the environment. This does not necessarily mean it is an immediate risk to human health, although some waste can be.”

Here’s some of the most common types of biohazard waste that our specialist disinfection service regularly deals with:

Microbiological Waste (e.g. virus disinfection in laboratory settings)

Human Body Fluids (including; vomit, saliva, semen, amniotic fluid)

Sharps Waste (e.g. needles, used medical tools)

Blood (human and animal)

Animal Waste (including; carcasses and faeces )

Also known as disinfectant fumigation, fogging is the chemical application method involving the misting of fine droplets of disinfectant which are sprayed throughout the affected area, coming into contact with surfaces that would be otherwise difficult to clean using other disinfection methods. Fogging infection control is proven to be effective at dealing with surface dwelling as well as airborne pathogens.
